09.20.15 Worship Confessional

people2We crave connection. We want to be known, cared for, loved, and celebrated. We long to give ourselves to something – to someone – greater than ourselves. We want a little band of brothers and sisters with whom we can do life in mission together. Unfortunately, the sense of connection is elusive for most of us. Either because of the choices we’ve made, or the circumstances that surround us, we are stuck with ourselves, just ourselves. We are alone facing the world. And it doesn’t feel very good. (Bill Donahue, The Irresistible Community)

Community is to be found at the intersection of the two segments of the cross, where those who are reconciled with God are reconciled together–where we love God with all we have and we love our neighbor as ourselves. It is where we learn to care and share, to challenge and support, to confide and confess, to forgive and be forgiven, to laugh and weep, to be accountable to each other, to watch over each other, to be servants together. It is the place of transformation. (Gilbert Bilezekian)
