Story Logo - Version 2Exodus is an epic tale of fire, sand, wind and water. Adventure takes place under the hot desert sun, just above the shadow of the great pyramids. Two mighty nations –Israel and Egypt – led by two great men – Moses the liberating hero, and Pharaoh the enslaving villain. Almost every scene is a masterpiece: the baby in the basket; the burning bush; the river of blood and the other plagues; the angel of death; the crossing of the Red Sea; the manna in the wilderness; the water from the rock; the thunder and lightning on the mountain; the 10 Commandments; the pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night; the golden calf; the glory in the tabernacle.

Once heard, the story is never forgotten. For Jews it is the story that defines their very existence, the rescue that made them God’s people. For Christians it is the gospel of the Old Testament, first great act of redemption. Return to the exodus again and again, sensing that somehow is is significant for the entire human race. (Philip Ryken)

We restarted our Story series this morning, beginning our Moses arc. Over the next two months, we will explore the amazing events that unfold in the book of Exodus. Today, we looked at the life of Moses’ parents as described by the writers of the letter to the Hebrews and Exodus 2:

By faith Moses’ parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict” (Hebrews 11:23).

Now a man of the house of Levi married a Levite woman and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months. But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile. (Exodus 2:1-4)

What is in your basket…what is something that you need to be willing to cast in the water and entrust  into God’s hands?
