As part of our gathering, we were planning on commissioning our New Jersey Serving Team and then sending them out for their week of serving in Highland Park, NJ as they bring real help and hope to people recovering from Superstorm Sandy. They wisely chose to get ahead of the storm and thankfully arrived in NJ shortly after 4 PM.
I was actually surprised at how many people braved the weather for worship. My wife text me right before we began with a short message, “keep it short, it’s bad out there.” I did simplify our gathering and instead of sharing my prepared message on Marks of a Missional Church,” we focused on coming to the Lord’s Table, the opportunity to taste and see how god God is. There was a sweet spirit in our gathering and it felt like the right call to shorten things up and change our direction.
