Even though I was still officially on vacation yesterday, it was great to be back with our community of faith (BTW – I had a rich experience worshiping with Hilton Head Island Community Church; God is a good work in, with and through this community of faith and if you are ever in that area you should check them out). Our Director of Spiritual Formation and Teaching, Dave Bindewald did a two week series on heaven and stretched our thinking on what the kingdom of heaven will look like when it comes in its fullness.
Al Wolters in his classic book, Creation Regained writes:
“God does not make junk, and we dishonor the Creator if we take a negative view of the work of His hands when He Himself takes such a positive view. If fact, so positive a view did He take of what He had created that He refused to scrap it when mankind spoiled it, but determined instead, at the cost of His own Son’s life, to make it new and good again. God does not make junk and He does not junk what He has made.”
How does this line of thinking shape your view of heaven? If God is in the business of restoring and renewing all things what will the kingdom of heaven look like when in comes in its fullness?
