02.03.13 Worship Confessional

Slide1We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. The one who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies. (Martin Luther King, Jr.)

This morning we continued our series, “The Five Ways of Being” and our gathering focused on forgiveness. While the message centered upon Jesus teaching to forgive others, earlier in the gathering we took an extra period of time to confess our own sins before God. We created a liturgy of confession that included: a visual rendering of Psalm 130 (from The Work of the People), prayers of confession and words of assurance from the Book of Common Prayer and the singing of Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone).

Here is our complete worship flow:

  • Awake My Soul (Chris Tomlin)
  • Furious (Jeremy Riddle)
  • Psalm 130 Video (The Work of the People)
  • Liturgy of Confession
  • Amazing Grace: My Chains Are Gone (Chris Tomlin)
  • Announcements and Offering
  • Message (Be Forgiving)
  • Forgiveness (Matthew West)
