10.7.12 Worship Confessional

This morning we joined together with sisters and brothers around the globe to celebrate World Communion Sunday. This special celebration is observed by many different denominations and faith communities and typically takes place on the first Sunday of every October. I recently learned that this celebration originated right here in Pittsburgh, at the Shadyside Presbyterian Church in 1933, and after adoption by the US Presbyterian Church, it quickly spread to other denominations.

During our gathering today we used a Communion Liturgy that helped better prepare our hearts to come to the Lord’s Table. This liturgy consisted of prayers of confession, responsive readings and songs that enabled us to focus more intently upon the great sacrifice of Christ. We had two serving stations where people could come forward to receive the sacrament (via intiction).

One of the songs we used was a new piece from Ben Cantelon called Love Divine. This simple, prayerful song helped create a rich environment to receive the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus. You can learn more about this song and listen to an acoustic version at New Song Cafe.
