9.19. 10 Worship Confessional

We had a excellent worship gathering yesterday at Christ Community Church of the South Hills. This was week two of our fall season of ministry and our lectionary text for the morning was 1 Timothy 2:1-7 in which Paul urges Timothy to make sure petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgivings are  being made for all people. The text also articulates the gospel – there is one God and one mediator between God and humanity, Jesus Christ.  To live more deeper into this reality we came together around the Lord’s Table and celebrated the Eucharist. We used this word intentional as it was the basically the same word that Paul used in verse 2 to describe the four types of prayers that are to be offered (thanksgivings). God has given us “great grace” in Jesus Christ and those who have received this should respond with “great thanksgiving.”

Our music set included:

  • Hallelujah (You Love is Amazing (Brown)
  • Let Me Sing (Fields)
  • As It Is in Heaven (Maher)
  • Let It Come (Scott)
  • Call to Worship (Redman)
  • Because of Your Love (Wickham)

I had one frightening moment: during “Let It Come” I broke a brand new G string. It snapped with so much force that I thought  I had been shot. Those who were sitting near got na up close and personal view of terror. We did a quick change of worship flow and moved up an interview with a young women headed off to YWAM, while I changed guitars.  Now that we don’t print the order of worship no one had a clue we  made a change. And in fact, flowing into  Matt Redman’s “Call to Worship” after the interview worked really well.

Did you have any surprises in your worship gathering this week?

  1. Bummer Terry! Yeah, I’ve had that happen all to often before and it creates quite the distraction. Looks like you handled it well! Way to improvise!

Had a similar train-wreck with our transition between ‘What a Savior’ and ‘To Know Your Name’… so the word of the week for me is… TRANSITIONS!

    Gotta love the gospel!
