9.05.10 Worship Confessional

The Labor Day weekend always marks for me a significant change in season and for our Sunday gathering we focused on change, transitions and choices. The lectionary texts were Psalm 1 and Deuteronomy 30 and both texts highlighted the importance of making wise choices. Life is filled with all types of changes and transitions and quite often, faithfulness can be measured by the kinds of choices we make in the midst of the changes.

Musically, we scaled things back using two acoustic guitars, bass and vocals. On occasion I like the more simple musical framework and I find it helps us focus more intently on what we are singing and to whom we are singing. Our opening songs included:

  • Hosanna (Baloche and Brown)
  • Because of Your Love (Baloche and Brown)
  • We Cry Out (Camp and Brown)

Following these songs, Marlaena led us in a time of reflection and prayer which was focused on the theme of change and transition.  After some introductory comments, we entered into a time of silence and created some space for people to engage God with these four questions:

  • What am I grateful for
  • What do I need to let go of?
  • What do I need t take hold of?
  • Who do I need to trust?

After a season of prayer, we moved into Matt Redman’s, “God of Our Yesterdays.” I love this song and the chorus is a strong reminder that Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today and forever:

We praise You, God of our yesterday
We praise You the God who is here today
We praise You our God as tomorrow come
We thank You, for grace in our yesterdays
We thank You for peace in our live today
We thank You, our joy as tomorrow comes.

May God guide you through the changes that you are facing and may you reach out, through the grace of Jesus Christ and choose life!

Stay connected…
